Solutions, there are for birth defects. Yes that was Yoda talk. Alright I’ll stop! So solutions. Well I think the best solution that the average person has to offer is to be respectfull of disabled people. Yeah! Disabled people usually don’t have a whole lot of self esteem so being respectfull is very important. So other solutions are.

  • Doctors can perform pre-natal surgery to correct the defect
  • Women can make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date
  • Vitamin levels in a woman need to be stable
  • Physical therapy returns mobility to the disabled
  • Again RESPECT!!!!!!

Thanks for caring enough to read my blogs. I means a lot. Oh and if you’re wondering what gives me the authority to write a blog like this, well I have a birth defect myself! So there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Downs of Birth Defects

December 19, 2007

So you have hopefully learned what causes birth defects and now are ready to learn the effects. Well lets start off with some numbers, shall we? About 150,000 babies are born with a birth defect each year!!!!! Wow thats alot of babies. Especially considering that over half won’t make it to their second year of life!!!! Yes it’s true. Birth defects typically lead to some sort of physical or mental disability. So what are the numbers for what is affected in the baby. Well look below!!

So that should answer that question. Other effects include:

  • 1 in 33 babies are born with a birth defect in the us alone!
  • Most common type of defects are heart defects
  • These affect 1 in every 3 babies born with a birth defect
  • Metabolic defects affect 1 in every 3,500 babies

The effects are catastophic, but luckily there are solutions.

Birth defects happen so what causes them. By the way this is the condesed version of a bigger document. If you want to find out more about the whole subject go to my pages and read the document entitled Birth Defects: Mutant Deformations or Harmful Accidents. So back to causes. About 60%, more than one half, of all birth defects have and unknown cause according to the March of Dimes. The other two main cause are environmental and genetic. Environmental such as pollution and gentic like inherited. Other main causes include:

  • Alcohol abuse by the mother
  • Infection in the mother during pregnancy
  • Abnormalities in chromosomes
  • Faulty genes
  • Certain chemicals                            NO!!!

So as you can tell the causes are clearly numerous, but what happens when a child has a birth defect and how many are effected. Well if you want more info, READ MY OTHER POSTS!!!!!!
